MARS, THE THRILLING EPIC SERIES
FROM EXECUTIVE PRODUCERS BRIAN GRAZER AND RON HOWARD,
AVAILABLE ON BLU-RAY AND DVD
About MARS:
MARS follows a crew of courageous international astronauts on its exhilarating maiden voyage to Mars and quest to colonize the fourth planet from the sun. In a unique blend of scripted drama intermixed with documentary sequences and feature-film-caliber visual effects, the series presents what the greatest minds in space exploration are doing to make traveling to the red planet a reality, featuring Big Thinkers like Elon Musk, Neil deGrasse Tyson and Stephen Petranek. Experience MARS in breathtaking high-definition. The must-own National Geographic sci-fi docudrama is jam-packed with two hours of extras, including prequel BEFORE MARS, Living on Mars, Cast & Crew Interviews and more.
My Thoughts:
I wanted to check out this new series with my family. My son and husband are big space nerds. My 11 year-old likes to consider himself an expert. I was intrigued by the idea of a scripted series/documentary. This type of series I believe has a much wider audience. For someone like me that is only mildly interested in space it allowed me to receive factual information while enjoying a fantasy or “what if” series. This is a perfect gateway tool especially for kids. They get to learn without even knowing they are learning and still get to enjoy the idea of living in space. My other son is not much of a space nut, but he said he found the series exciting and was left after each episode wanting more. My space nut felt the need to point out what sections were fact. It was obvious that 2033 is fiction.
We paired the series with this companion book Mars Our Future on the Red Planet by Leonard David. As a mom that homeschooled her child for a couple of years I realize that every thing is a learning opportunity. My son loved flipping through this book and finding answers to questions that arose while watching this series. We have been fans of National Geographic for years and visuals and information here are phenomenal.

This looks like it’d be a good one to watch with my fiancé! As for what I’d pack, hmmm… let me think… Okay, lets go with all the normal essentials we know that others who have gone to space in the past have brought; such as the space suit, the correct type of foods (I cannot think of what this is called right now!?), and also, I’d also like to bring along a way in which to communicate with my kiddos! A break would be NICE, but I’d still miss them, no doubt! Thanks for the chance to win! 🙂
