“KEDI”
FEATURE-LENGTH FILM TO DEBUT ON YOUTUBE RED ON MAY 10, 2017
Send me a picture of a cat and ask if I would like to screen a documentary and expect me to say No- You must be joking! Of course I will do it! I love documentaries and cats so that’s my disclosure, but honestly, I loved this film! Take a read….
About Kedi:
In Istanbul, the cat is more than just a cat. It embodies the indescribable energy, culture, and uniqueness that is the essence of the city. Cats have become an essential part of the fabric of Istanbul. They are the mirrors to the people, allowing them to reflect on their lives in ways nothing else could. The seven distinct feline personalities featured in the film are: Sari (“The Hustler”), Duman (“The Gentleman”), Bengü (“The Lover”), Aslan Parçasi (“The Hunter”), Gamsiz (“The Player”), Psikopat (“The Psycho”), and Deniz (“The Social Butterfly”).
I loved all these cat characters, but Gamsiz won my heart the most! Here take a look!

My Thoughts:
I watched this film with my family and I thought for sure my boys would love it, but then we realized it was completely subtitled! My guys are 13 and 11 and I wasn’t sure if this would hold their attention, but I was wrong. They both are were glued to the TV. When I asked them about it my youngest said, ” I thought the subtitles would make me bored, but they made me pay more attention to the movie.” I have to agree with him. I couldn’t let myself be distracted and I didn’t want to be. I was involved with the story of these felines and their human friends. It reminded me of my travels in Italy and Greece where cats run free in the streets and are friendly. It felt familiar. I developed my own connection to these people, their land, and the cats that are just as much part of their culture. Both travelers and cat lovers will enjoy this documentary.

What a cool movie. It’s a bit out of the norm which is refreshing. I am not a cat person but this really caught my attention. I watched the trailer and can see how the personalities fit the cat’s behaviors. I am glad your kids enjoyed even if the movie is in subtitles. Thank you for sharing!
