Showing Roots Synopsis:
In 1977, as the miniseries “Roots” hits the airwaves, two women are inspired to try to integrate their small Southern town. In a place where there are still “right” and “wrong” sides of the tracks, these two young women — one white, one black — forge an unlikely friendship that sparks a journey of independence and self-discovery, and ultimately results in the creation of the perfect hairdo. Stars Maggie Grace, Uzo Aduba, Elizabeth McGovern, Adam Brody, Cicely Tyson.
My Thoughts:
I found this to be quite an original storyline. While the subject matter is serious the story is quirky and funny at times. My son actually commented that he liked it because the story was able to convey racism without showing violence. He is 11 and any of the films we have seen about civil rights have shown violence. He liked that you can still show how people can be racist without being violent. Uzo Aduba is the real hero in this story as she helps Maggie Grace fulfill her dream and pull the town together. I also love the tie in between the viewing of “Roots” the miniseries in this film. This film is a good watch!

I never heard about this movie ut will have to look it up because I really like Uzo Aruba. I appreciate the idea of showing racism in different ways. I think the culture is to think of racism as a violent act but it can be so much more.
