About Storm Boy:
A beautiful and contemporary retelling of Colin Thiele’s classic Australian tale. ‘Storm Boy’ has grown up to be Michael Kingley, a successful retired businessman and grandfather. When Kingley starts to see images from his past that he can’t explain, he is forced to remember his long-forgotten childhood, growing up on an isolated coastline with his father. He recounts to his grand-daughter the story of how, as a boy, he rescued and raised an extraordinary orphaned pelican, Mr Percival. Their remarkable adventures and very special bond has a profound effect on all their lives. Based on the beloved book, Storm Boy is a timeless story of an unusual and unconditional friendship.

My Thoughts on Storm Boy:
Well, it’s mixed one for me folks. It seemed a bit slow going and predictable to me in the beginning, but I found that not to be the case as the film progressed. One thing that I liked about the movie was the slow pace. I find that in today’s times everything is so rushed and handed to you on a platter. The slow pace allowed me to relax into the natural world of the characters. Since the film moves from the current day to the main characters past we get a taste of what life was like in a calm nature setting. My son was able to predict exactly how this movie would unfold, but he missed some of the important messages and sub-plots that the story contained. We were able to talk about the many themes after the fact and I found it to be quite a bonding moment between us. This isn’t just a story of a boy and his bird. This story touches on grief, family, the environment, and how we are all connected. It is the story within the story that sells this picture to me. A wonderful film for families to watch together and discuss.
