Wonder Woman – The Complete First SeasonThe Batman Superman Movie
My boys love to dress up. My youngest son more than most. He spends most of his day in costume. Usually it is Spiderman. He doesn’t do it for the attention, but just because he like it and he tells me, “I want to be Spiderman.” I’ve learned quite a bit living with superheros.
1. They are superheros because of forces beyond their control. They are not always comfortable with all the attention they receive. ( my son hates it when people comment on his costume)
2. They all have one weakness that they are fully aware of- (don’t you wish that you knew to stay away from kyptonite!) (snacks are my sons weakness)
3. They remain strong and confident even while wearing spandex. (okay- who can do that!?)
As the mom of a superhero I’ve learned quite a bit and some of it is not pretty. The mom that gives my son the once over and dismisses me as an unfit mom for letting my son wear his cape in public is NOT someone I care to be friends with ever. Obviously she doesn’t care if her kids fly like mine.
The best part of having a superhero is when he makes people laugh and smile. A little girl on the bus the other day was pointing and waving at my little superhero on the porch. She just lit up. He really does have super powers! Who else can make someone forget they are off to a full day at school!
I personally don’t like all the attention myself, but he’s my superhero. He’s taught me in a very unique way never to be afraid to be myself even if it might seem ridculous to others.
