I love this time of year. My CSA ( community supported agriculture) starts to happen. There is something just magical about picking up fresh produce from the farm. If you’ve only bought from the store you might not know what I mean. The produce is just so alive and inspiring.
The strawberries, well you can smell how good they are before you even try them. Honestly, you haven’t had a strawberry until you’ve had one picked fresh at the farm. I was in ecstasy. Wow, I guess I still am just talking about it! Darn, why is my husband working late? LOL. Seriously, if you haven’t already at least try your local farm market. You will be amazed at the quality of the produce. It not only nourishes you physically, but it nourishes the soul.
When I say inspiring, I mean that I am inspired to cook and try new things. I have never even tried a beet until I started our CSA. Now I make them several different ways and I can’t get enough. Mostly, I love the fact that I’m part of my community in a way that helps them and nourishes my family. My kids see where their food comes from whether they try it or not. I can also tell you- those strawberries don’t last long!
Are you hungry yet? I sure am. Another big motivation- you just paid for all this produce- you better cook it! If supporting your community, eating local, eating organic aren’t enough- you just paid for all this- cook it! Trust me, as excited I get by my produce I get lazy too! I don’t feel like washing and cleaning it. The almighty dollar is quite motivating for me. I can’t have this stuff go to waste. I paid for it! as petty as it sounds, it’s still the truth, it’s alot of work. Is it worth it? Absolutely! You are helping your community, I’m at least composting, and you get all of the benefits of local organic farming. The best part- it’s good for your body!
So, if you haven’t joined a CSA, support your local farmers market. You’ll do your body and community good!

I love CSA. I'm still on a waiting list to be a part. Perhaps someday.
Thank you in advance for reading and reviewing Life in Defiance for the blog tour this week. I really appreciate it! I'm going to be out of town for a few days, so I thought I would say thank you early!
With joy and thanks,
