It all started 2 weeks ago. I went into preterm labor at 33 weeks and 5 days. Honestly I thought the pain was another appendix attack, although they removed my appendix was gone years ago. I was in the hospital for 3 days to try to stop the contractions. They did get them to slow way down to about 1 an hour. I was given antibiotics and steroids. I went home on bed rest for the week. At 34 weeks, I was back at the hospital for bleeding and spent the night. Doctor said to go home and stay on part time bed rest. I was spending 4 hours of daylight in bed.
Last Saturday, I was wanting to get out of the house. Hubby said he wanted to go browse suits, we left the house around 11 and went to a suit warehouse. It was a blessing from God, they were having a tent sale. He had intended to run me home before his afternoon appointments, we ran out of time. During his afternoon appointments I took a nap in the back of the car. We got home around 8 in the evening. I was having more regular contractions most of Saturday although I did not mention it to anyone. I went to bed early Saturday evening in anticipation for church the next morning. We were expecting to see Rebbecca St. James at Willowcreek.
Sunday morning at 12:30 am I woke up and thought I wet the bed. I got up went to the bathroom and went a laid back down. The warm liquid continued to leak down my leg. I got back up about 15 minutes later and went to the bathroom for a pad. After inspecting the fluid, it was clear, warm, and sweet smelling. I decided it was probably my water, so I started doing chores around the house, quietly. I did not wake hubby up yet, he went to bed late and needed to rest. I loaded the dishwasher and started it. I picked up kitchen, packed food for the day, finished re-packing my overnight bag, and took the dog outside to potty.
At 2 am I woke hubby up and told him not to rush. I called the doctor’s line to have him paged, and Dr. B called me back within 5 minutes. I told him I believed my water had broken and asked if we could come in at 6 am. He said ‘NO’, he would see us within the hour. I was hoping hubby could finish sleeping.
We arrived at the hospital at 3:37 am, they immediately put me in a room in L&D. When the nurse checked me I was even thinner and still 1 cm dilated. My water had definitely broke. They went to order the meds I needed for my positive GBS and allergies. She got my IV started and then at 4:30 am the nurse started my benoldryl to help with the allergy to the antibiotics. They started the antibiotic at 5 am and I fell asleep. When I woke up my contractions were still about 7 or 8 minutes apart. The nurse started the pitocin at 9 am. The contractions became more consistent, yet not painful.
The anesthesiologist came by to see if I wanted a line started for an epi around 10 am. I told him I would take it as it came and decide later. “If we needed him we would call him later” were my exact words and away he went.
They continued to turn up the pitocin. At 2 pm I started to feel the contractions, the pitocin drip was at a 4. The nurse checked me and I was 3 cm dilated.
I breathed through them till about 3 pm, and then told hubby to call the nurse. The nurse suggested I try rocking through them. I moved to the rocking chair and continued to breath. I asked hubby to kill the volume on the TV as it was distracting and I could not separate my mind from the pain. I managed till 4 pm, when the pitocin was at a 5 or 6 rate. I told the nurse to call the anesthesiologist back now! He arrived about 30 minutes later. The epi did not take long to insert and the effects started after the next few contractions. The nurse checked me and said I was complete; they called the doctor. He arrived and rechecked me and I was really only 6 cm dilated. My past leep procedure had confused the nurse.
At 4:45 pm I had another dose of benodryl and received my antibiotic at 5 pm. Between the benni and epi, I fell asleep.
I woke up groggy at 8 pm and the nurse wanted to recheck me as my contractions were about 2 minutes apart. I was complete. She said I needed to wake up to push. Baby T was at station 0 and ready to come out. I would pushed 4 times per a contraction. Hubby held one leg and the nurse held the other. She said we would push until the doctor arrived. Dr. L got there about 20 minutes later and had to stretch me. I continued to push as the contractions came, they were about 3 minutes apart. This allowed me time to breath in between and refocus.
At 9 pm the doctor did a small epostomy and I pushed her out at 9:18 pm. They laid her on my stomach, even though her umbilical cord was short while he worked on me. I wanted her cord to stop pulsing before hubby cut it. The pitocin was shut off immediately after her birth. The epi was shut off after I delivered the placenta and was stitched up.
She was wiped off and measured, then handed back to me for an hour. Then off to the NICU she went for her breathing issues.
T-Minus 0! She is here!
