So, I finally get caught up and the blog dare throws me a curve with this prompt. I never really knew my grandparents. Both sets of grandparents lived in Italy, so as you can imagine, a little tough to bond. I actually only met one grandparent. My dad’s mom came to America once that I can recall and I believe I saw her once or twice in Italy. I don’t have any photos of the place in Italy, but my hubby and I visited both of my grandparents original homes, where my parents actually grew up. The above picture was taken in Caldier which is in Istria. This was my dad’s house.
It’s kind of a ritual that when you visit Italy you hop the border and visit these homes as well. After all this is where it all began, our family.
This is a picture of my mom’s childhood home. From what I understand it’s appearance has change throughout the years, but it still stands. Her home in Istria was located in the small town of Porto Cervera. I never had the chance to meet these grandparents. Growing up I always felt a bit saddened by that fact, and listening to my friends talk about their grandparents didn’t help. I’m happy that my kids have the opportunity to know their grandparents. Hopefully, they’ll appreciate it someday.
For now, I at least I can take a glimpse of what life might have been like for my grandparents. That will have to do.

I also only know the Grandparents on my father’s side. Both on my Mother’s side passed away before I was born. My grandmother passed away from Breast Cancer at the age of 36. Life just happened to Pap. Thanks for sharing your post.

I was very lucky that I knew both sets of Grandparents. Grandfathers for only 6 years. Grandmothers until my kids were grown. I was blessed with awesome Grandparents!

thanks for sharing!! That’d be so hard not to know them! I felt bad that my boys didn’t know their grandma&grandpa (my in laws) because they lived a few states away, but living somewhere else entirely would be so much harder!

Grandparent’s house is always full of beautiful memories..at least for the grandchildren. I am lucky I get to know both sets of grandparents minus one (my mom’s dad).
