10 Things I Learned This Summer

August 26, 2014 By Milena Barrett

mom

Well, well, well, I haven’t posted my “10 Things I’ve Learned” post in quite a while! I miss writing it. I’ve had a sobering experience this Summer and I’ve been busy building my life. I now realize that I love this blog and all that comes with it. I will be revamping things a bit here and there, but one thing I know is that I want to go back to writing. Yes, I write, but I want to write about things that matter to me and that might be able help folks along their way as well. I feel blessed to live the life that I am living and to have the friends and family that I have surrounding me. I hope you stick with me, even when I suck.

This Summer I learned that:

10. no matter how well planned out my bucket list for Summer might be it still might not happen. ( We did a lot, but darn it, for once I would just like to complete the list! Sorry, Owen no helicopter ride for you!)

9. when my husband says, “This Summer I’ll have more time off.” not to believe him. ( Sorry babe, I’m grateful for all your hard work, but seriously Summer is your busy time. I know it- you just need know it.)

8. my kids are growing up! ( The children’s zoo just didn’t cut it this year! No more kids menu’s either, this mom has to pay full price!)

7. I can still feel like a badass when I crank the radio while a good song is playing in my car. ( Somehow the fact that I’m driving a car with a third row just goes away!)

6. I need to let the kids help out with larger tasks. ( They are capable and the sense of pride it gives them is priceless.)

5. you need to just walk away from the mess and enjoy the day. ( The weather this Summer has been odd. I’ve learned to enjoy a good day and save the work for the bad ones. Pardon my mess….)

4. 2 weeks of camp was enough. ( I liked having my boys around and doing things with them or sometimes just not doing anything – LOL. )

3. I love to write and create. ( I’ll be bringing you a new and improved Be Your Best Mom site in the Fall,)

2. no matter how many magazines, or fashion shows are available people will still continue to wear shorts that are too small on them, have their bras hanging out or even worse. ( Bring on the Fall so I don’t have to see so much flesh!)

1. it’s good being me. ( I’m blessed with all that I have in this life, even if I forget it sometimes.)

I hope everyone has enjoyed their Summer. Personally, I’m ready for the “new year” that begins this Fall. Bring it on!

I learned a lot this summer as well, and am inspired to write about it because of your post. I definitely agree that folks are going to wear clothes that are too small and do not increase their aesthetic appeal no matter WHAT. It was a great summer!

As always Mil, I loved this! I have missed your “…things I learned…” articles so much! I too learned a lot this summer and have way more to go! Looking forward to doing it together.

Ok I just LOVE that photo!

I can relate to #8, I got one girl there and the other just about to step over. It hit me this summer when she said balloons and face painting were not COOL! Gasp! I had that minion “WHAT” expression. Then it got really real when we went out to eat and her kids meal steak at hibachi was not enough and she ate mine! Of course we crossed into double digits too. Sigh. Time for drinks I say! Strong ones!

I love this post because it is so true. I especially like that I am not the only who still cranks the radio and I sing out load when I hear a song I love. My kids love music from the 80s and to hear me sing. Just kidding!

Never Miss A Post!
