One of my favorite breakfast memories as a child has to do with the Monster Cereals. My mom didn’t buy a lot of cereals for us so this was extra special. I’m attributing my being a big horror fan now to the love of these cartoon monsters. LOL! All kidding aside, I was thrilled to receive this years retro boxes of Monster Cereal mostly because these are the boxes I remember being at my table. Count Chocula and Frankem Berry made their debut in 1971 with Boo Berry following in 1973. This years retro boxes, only available at Target, are from 1979 and 1980. I knew they looked a little too familiar!
Along side the retro boxes the Monsters are also featured on Fruit Roll Ups and Count Chocula has his own marshmallow and chocolate treat bars! My kids were thrilled. It has become a tradition that we get the Monster Cereals for the month of October and the addition of Boo Berry and Frankin Berry Fruit Roll ups was a major hit. My kids loved asking me questions about what it was like when I was little like them. It’s amazing how having breakfast together with your old time favorite cereals can open up new topics of interest in a family. Plus my boys thought it was cool to be eating the same thing I did as a kid, they somehow felt connected in a new way to my past.
The boxes feature cut-out masks for super fans who want an instant Halloween costume. We were running around the house with these on, but I can’t seem to find pictures of that! It was too funny. Do you love cereal? Have you shared childhood breakfast memories with your kids? I’d love to hear about it!
