I’ve reviewed a lot of diet books in the past, but this one is different. The Anticancer Diet: Reduce Cancer Risk Through the Foods You Eat by David Khayat, MD isn’t about losing any weight! It’s about the science behind eating the right foods in order to reduce your risk of developing cancer. Considering cancer has taken many of my family members and plagues many of friends I wanted to take a look and see what Khayat had to say regarding food.
About The Anti Cancer Diet:
In this international bestseller, Dr. Khayat provides easy-to-follow — and often surprising — guidelines on what are now known to be the foods most likely to reduce the risk of cancer. For those of a scientific bent, he explains what cancer is and how it develops. Bringing together his own research with that of other major cancer specialists, he breaks down what the studies mean, which ones provide the most solid evidence, and how to use their results in your and your family’s diet.
Structured by the major food groups — as well as supplements, beverages, and exercise — The Anticancer Diet may surprise you by not disparaging red meat but alerting you to find out the source of your fish and suggesting sole over salmon. While highly recommending commercial pomegranate juice, it cautions people with fair hair and eyes against drinking orange juice. What stage of life a person is at will also affect what they should consume. Pregnant women, older women, men, and children may process foods differently.
With numerous easy-to-read charts and tables along with a comprehensive food list at the back of the book, this accessible, user-friendly guide helps readers realize the power in their everyday choices.
My Thoughts on The Anti Cancer Diet:
I was concerned that this would be a long and technical read, but I was wrong. Khayat writes in an easy follow manner that allows anyone to understand the information. He easily explains the science behind these food discoveries and allows the reader to truly understand why and how these foods can help lower your cancer risk. Some of the information I had heard before, but quite a few things were new to me. I had no idea that beta-carotene was bad for smokers or ex-smokers! The anti-cancer checklist in the back of the book is an excellent resource on how to lower your risk. It not only covers food, but habits as well. Of course I love that I can still enjoy a glass of my favorite red wine a day to help me stay cancer free!
The Final Word:The Anticancer Diet: Reduce Cancer Risk Through the Foods You Eatis a great read for anyone! I know so many people who have changed their lifestyles after being diagnosed. By tweaking a few things in our lives maybe we can help fight this horrible disease, so take a read!

This would be for me. My daughter died from cervical cancer Dec 1. One of my sons has had a cancerous kidney removed. though his cancer was directly caused by smoking. I personally believe a lot of cancer comes from all the chemicals we breathe and consume. This book would be very informative for me and my family.
